GIS Consultant - Remote Sensing
Location (Including Home Working Ratio): Remote working outside of London or Houston; 60% Office/ 40% Home working from London or Houston (Remote option possible for other areas)
Travel Requirements: <10%
Duration: 6 months

Role Responsibilities:
  • Developing and maintaining Remote Sensing (RS) processes, solutions and documentation
  • Setting the strategy and direction for RS data
  • Keeping abreast of technological and industry developments and applying these to the strategic advancement of Geospatial Platform.
  • Working across the business to use RS data to improve internal processes and products.
  • Providing technical analysis and advice to support the strategic direction of the Geospatial Domain in the use of RS data and products.
  • Managing RS data, enhancing the data collection, maintenance, and management processes.
  • Working collaboratively with various teams and contractors to execute projects, retain expertise and learning to share across the group.
  • Evaluating, investigating and developing new ideas on RS processing for promotion

  • Experience of planning and delivering elements of projects.
  • Advanced capability with remote sensing software packages (e.g. ArcGIS, ENVI, ERDAS, GDAL) and understanding of remote sensing systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of the mathematical/physical basics of remote sensing and the thematic analysis of satellite data.
  • Advanced knowledge on machine learning, neural networks, ensemble learning techniques
  • Advanced practical experience in remote sensing, GIS, EO data processing / tropical forest / land use/land cover classification/damage assessment/tree species classification
  • Proficiency in Javascript and one or more high level programming languages such as Python, R, C++, C#, or MATLAB
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging imagery sensors, techniques and vendors.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data management and storage solutions for imagery data.
  • Experience engaging collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of planning and delivering elements of projects expertise in raster and vector data processing workflows;
  • Solid background in designing and implementing strategies for collection, analysis, storage and display of large imagery data sets and in performing statistical data analysis.
  • Desired to have familiarity with parallel, distributed, or other high-performance computing platforms such as AWS; experience in use of geodatabase management systems and databases (e.g., SQL, MySQL, PostGIS, PostgreSQL) and one or more photogrammetric processing software (e.g., Agisoft PhotoScan, ERDAS IMAGINE); familiarity with scientific data formats such as NetCDF, HDFand GRIB, and data science and machine learning concepts.
