Overview
A large oil and gas company had agreed to buy several operating assets from a Super Major in the North Sea. The digital systems associated with the new assets had to be migrated to the new operator by a critical date to complete the deal.
Objective
Digital systems associated with the newly acquired assets need to be migrated to the new operator to enable them to start operating the assets legally and safely. This migration is timebound and required by a critical date to complete the M&A deal.
Solution
- Build a team with relevant digital domain experience to organise the efficient migration from the existing operator to the new operator.
- Analyse software licenses to fully understand existing and potential new licenses required for the new operator.
- Carefully plan the data migration to ensure seamless migration from the old to the new system.
- Ensure all data is accurately and quickly moved into its new location.
Benefits
- A dedicated digital PMO with specialist domain consultants covering all upstream functions (Sub-surface, Drilling, Production, Operations, HSSE, Finance, Procurement, HR, Legal) was put together to organise the efficient migration from the existing operator to the new operator.
- Software licenses were carefully analysed to understand what was possible and any potential new licenses were purchased for the new operator.
- A plan was established for the data migration from the old to the new system, including thoroughly testing the migration process, which was then conducted in production systems.
- Further expertise was pulled in from across the digital organisation to ensure all the data was accurately and quickly moved into its new location, or a new instance of the existing application was setup.
